Iraq Under Attack

"A powerful blast has ripped through a Baghdad hotel and several neighbouring buildings, killing several people and sending a plume of flames and smoke into the night sky in the centre of the city."

The hotel's name is Lebannon Mountain Hotel. The hotel was located well outside the "Green Zone." near Firdos Square where the statue of Saddam Hussein was toppled.An Iraqi Intelligence training camp was behind the hotel. It is thought that the attack may have been targetting the new intelligence service.

The hotel housed several business people and foreign contractors and press. The hotel was frequented by those doing business with foreign contractors.


It is thought the attack was done by likely a large missile at close range or a car bomb.

Al Jazeera broadcast headquarters are located next door to the hotel and have continued to broadcast despite ancillary damage to their building.

There are 10 confirmed deaths and many wounded,

No news yet on whether or not Spain is scheduling new elections to respond to this round of attacks.

The attacks interrupted an "important" national security speech from Senator Kerry. he was just praising Madeleine Albright and John Shashskvilillishilli when the networks cut away.
