"Al-Qaida In Our Midst
T he only nugget of good news from the Justice Department's gloomy press conference Wednesday was that the government's intelligence efforts have improved since 9/11, when al-Qaida ``chatter'' about an upcoming major event was detected but not clearly understood.
Now, the information is more specific. The government knows that al-Qaida plans to launch a major attack in this country this summer. Attorney General John Ashcroft says the terrorist group ``is almost ready.''
It is good to see that FBI Director Robert Mueller was able to identify seven suspected operatives who may be traveling with their families to minimize suspicion. Still, federal agents do not know when, where or how the plot may unfold.
This the cold war, and it will last for quite some time. The war in Iraq has lessened that time period I think, but this war will still be ongoing for the reat of our lives.
